Generally you use a telescope with an eyepiece. It's possible to get video hookups that let you view the image on a screen but I think this is far less enjoyable and gives you less flexibility.
There's a lot to it, more than can be explained here. Fortunately, there are a number of websites that can help you.
What you'll be able to see depends on how large the primary mirror is and how well you build it (mostly the optics).
